Sharing out a Drive (Win95/Win98/WinNT)

Once your computer is set up for networking you can share your hard drive so others can access your information.
This can be done as follows:

  1. Double click on the My Computer icon located on the Desktop.
  2. Right Click on the drive that you want other people on the network to access and select the Sharing option.
  3. Select the access you want people to have (Read, Full, Depends on password).
  4. If you only want a select few to have access to your computer enter a password in the Password section.
  5. Click on the OK button when finished to save the selection.
  6. The drive you just selected should have a blue hand under it indicating that the drive is allowing it to be shared.

Note: If your computer is not set up for networking the Sharing option will not appear on your computer.
Also File and Print sharing must be activated for Win95/Win98 computers, and the Server Service must be installed on NT 4.0 Workstation computers.

Connecting to a Shared Drive / Directory (Win95/Win98/WinNT)

Once your computer is set up for networking you can access data on other computers. Although it is not necessary to map a drive letter to the data you want to use, it is easier when having to do it a lot. To create a drive letter for accessing another computer's drive do the following:

  1. Double click on the Network Neighborhood icon located on the Desktop.
  2. Double click on the computer you want to connect to.
  3. Right click on the yellow folder of the drive you want to connect to, and select the Map Network Drive option.
  4. Your computer will select the next available drive letter. If you want your computer to always connect this computer at logon check the box labeled Reconnect at Logon.
  5. Click the OK button to save and exit
Note: The computer you want to connect to must have its drive shared, Must have the proper access granted, and must be turned on.

Sharing Out a Printer Connected to a Computer(Win95/Win98/WinNT)

This can be done as follows:

  1. Double click on the My Computer icon located on the Desktop.
